Impacting Children’s Lives Through Sport

A total of 19 young adults who have been through our programme over the past year have successfully moved onto tertiary studies or the working world, which is evidence of the progress made by the not-for-profit organisation in London, UK.

Since founded in 2021, KatangaFC has used sport as a tool to develop children from disadvantaged and vulnerable backgrounds. Starting at the primary school age level, with enthusiastic participation, we move ahead with committed children who receive top-level coaching through our excellence programme.

A recent Impact Report shows that these football programmes not only yielded the positive outcomes intended by the organisation, but they also had a far deeper effect and encouraging spin-offs than what KatangaFC had anticipated, said KatangaFC Founder Raphael Bereket.

Just a few highlights of the results achieved between 2021 and 2022 include:

  • This year, KatangaFC doubled its intake of beneficiaries from 40 to 60 children (compared to the previous period 2021).
  • 32 children were signposted to partner organisations and received extra academic support, further sports development, life skills and personal mentoring in the period 2021 to 2022.
  • The total number of children reached by our programme over the year (2021 to 2022) was 40. The programme involves direct football coaching, life skills and critical issues teaching.

The results from the Impact Report were obtained through tests, surveys, interviews and focus groups conducted by our staff.

Football is the beautiful game that brings different nationalities together.

“The areas and evidence of change is hugely encouraging signs that we are progressing in the right direction. The children’s lived experiences inform our future analysis, evaluation and planning for programme development and growth as an organisation. We are proud of the outcomes of the past year of intervention in the lives of the children of west London – as we continue to support children in their rights to play, be healthy and get access to a good education to enable them to fulfil their full potential,” Raphael said.

Thank you from our beneficiaries:

“KYFC has helped me take a more positive approach towards school. It has broadened my horizons and supported me to approach new situations so I am always the best version of me  and can stop getting into trouble.”  Daniel, Ex participant, Latimer road.
